-Illy D.-
*Who is Illy D.?*
Here's a chance to learn more about Illy Dutch. We sat down and asked Illy Dutch a few questions that fans wanted to know. These were his responses...
How many were in your family?
-Nine
Where were you in the lineup?
-Third-Youngest
What one or two stories do you remember most clearly about music during your childhood?
-I remember performing at Penns Landing when I was about 10 or 11 years old with my 3 sisters. We were called The Garveyites back then. We practiced everyday; my dad and the family friend, Timmy, were our producers. They were on us that whole week trying to prepare us for the show. My mom put our outfits together. That day ended up being one of the most memorable days of my entire life! Everybody was so proud of us.
What was it like where you grew up?
-It was rough, but we worked with what we had. I grew up with a pretty large family, so hand-me-downs were non-negotiable (laughs). We lived in alot of places; Philly, Jamaica, Florida, Philly, New Mexico--in that order. I had the chance to see and experience a lot of different types of cultures, plus we traveled a lot as well during the summers. I thank my parents for that. They worked extra-hard to provide us with everything we needed in order to succeed in life.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
-In all honesty, I wanted to be a professional ball player...still got skills, by the way! (laughs)
What leisure time activities are you involved with?
-There is no time for leisure but when I do take time off its usually just to relax on the couch with my lady; watch a movie. Yeah it may sound corny, but i'm content with those times.
What were the most joyous, fulfilling times of your life?
-I would have to say right now; I'm pursuing my dreams and actually seeing the results of my labor pay off!
What have you learned over your lifetime that you'd like to share with the younger generation?
-I've learned that it does not matter what the other person has; be thankful for what you have. Separate your wants from your needs. Dont be in such a rush to grow up. Enjoy your childhood and cherish the time that u have now, because adulthood is a whole different ball game.
What are you most grateful for in your life?
-I am most grateful for my family and friends who supported me and stuck by me since day one. I am also grateful for being a god fearing man!
I am grateful to be alive and see my dreams starting to turn into reality; grateful for having a brother on the team who is as dedicated and devoted to uplifting the community as I am. It is an honor to work with one as talented as he is; to converse with such an intellectual being as my brother, Genesis, is exciting!
Last, but not least, I am grateful to feel blessed...
..Bless!
